Today marks a milestone in Egypt’s path towards a more dynamic, independent, and impactful civil society. With the launch of the Civil Society Support Fund, a renewed partnership between the Egyptian state, civil society organizations (CSOs), and international partners takes shape—one designed to empower communities and respond to their evolving needs.

At the launch ceremony, EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst underscored the significance of this step, noting:

“We are proud to have supported the development of the Civil Society Fund through our Equal Opportunities and Social Development Project. The challenges faced by communities are complex and evolving, and civil society must be equipped and supported to respond to their needs. The Civil Society Support Fund has the potential to become a true cornerstone of that response.”

The European Union has been a steadfast supporter of the Fund’s re-establishment, bolstering its capacity to deliver with both efficiency and impact. Ambassador Eichhorst further emphasized:

“The European Union firmly believes that a vibrant, independent, and empowered civil society is fundamental to sustainable development. Civil society is not merely a beneficiary of policy; it is a vital contributor to innovation, accountability, and social resilience.”

Beyond financial and institutional support, the EU is also collaborating with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to enhance the role of young people—particularly young women and persons with disabilities—in shaping their communities. This effort includes capacity-building for state actors, empowering youth as agents of change, and raising public awareness around disability inclusion.

In this shared vision, the Civil Society Support Fund is more than a mechanism of aid—it is a promise of partnership, a bridge between policy and people, and a step toward a more inclusive and resilient Egypt.
