CAIRO — The Turkish Embassy in Cairo hosted a high-profile reception celebrating Türkiye’s August 30 Victory Day and Armed Forces Day, highlighting a rapidly maturing strategic partnership between Ankara and Cairo.
Hosted at the Ambassador’s residence, the gathering brought together high-ranking Egyptian military officials, civilian dignitaries, nearly 60 foreign defense attachés, around 200 distinguished guests, diplomats, business leaders, and media representatives. During the reception, Turkish Military Attaché Brigadier General Tahir Engin Bilgin delivered the official Victory Day message from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
A Regional Anchor for Peace
Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şan emphasized that both nations view their strengthening military and defense industry ties not as a posture of force, but as an anchor for stability in a volatile region.
“Türkiye approaches security and stability by reinforcing deterrence and addressing regional challenges through regional ownership,” Amb. Şan stated. He noted that diplomacy must actively back military deterrence to resolve interconnected security and humanitarian crises across the Middle East, North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Horn of Africa.
“Developing relations between Türkiye and Egypt carries strategic importance,” Şan highlighted. “Both of our countries possess large, highly professional armed forces and significant capabilities in the defense industry. Our objective is clear: to transform our shared potential into effective cooperation that benefits both nations and underpins regional peace.”
Building on Strategic Momentum
The event underscored the momentum generated by high-level diplomatic engagements throughout 2026. Following President Erdoğan’s visit to Cairo on February 4—where he co-chaired the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—the bilateral relationship gained a concrete framework, including a historic military framework agreement.
This diplomatic alignment extends to key regional issues:

Middle East & Red Sea Security: Shared stances on achieving a fair, lasting peace in Palestine, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery and reconstruction in Gaza, and safeguarding maritime security in the Red Sea.

Regional Stability: Mutual support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Libya, Sudan, and Somalia.

Diplomacy First: Joint commitment to de-escalation and diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts.
“Türkiye and Egypt see the strengthening of their ties as a foundational pillar for a more stable regional order built on trust, security, and shared prosperity,” Amb. Şan noted, adding that Türkiye remains committed to NATO principles while expressing interest in Egypt’s involvement in broader regional arrangements.
Defense Collaboration and Shared Heritage
Military ties between the two nations have seen rapid acceleration in recent months. Amb. Şan pointed to the July 2026 visit of Egyptian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Ashraf Salem Zaher to Türkiye, during which he toured Turkish defense industrial facilities and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening joint military production and technology exchange.
Concluding his remarks, Amb. Şan noted that the Turkish and Egyptian militaries share deep-seated historical and institutional traditions alongside their operational capabilities. Marking the occasion, he also congratulated the Egyptian Armed Forces on the recent inauguration of their strategic Octagon headquarters, commissioned by President El-Sisi.
