Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group on Gaza, held in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday, February 11.
In his remarks at the meeting, Aboul Gheit emphasized the absolute priority of a ceasefire in Gaza, warning of the danger of an unprecedented deterioration in the humanitarian situation, with the aim of forcing Palestinians out of the Strip.
Jamal Rushdi, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, said that the meeting witnessed an extensive discussion on ways to build internal pressure to halt the brutal Israeli war on civilians in Gaza and to prevent a displacement scenario that is rejected by Arab countries and internationally.
Rushdi emphasized that the ministers of the Arab and Islamic countries that are members of the Contact Group discussed the next steps on the political and diplomatic levels regarding the implementation of the two-state solution and strengthening support for it within the international community, particularly with regard to the conference scheduled to be held in New York next June under joint Saudi-French sponsorship to advance the two-state solution. The participants emphasized the importance of France taking the necessary and necessary step of recognizing the Palestinian state, considering this a significant step toward a two-state solution.
