Tourism cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States is rapidly flourishing, combining cultural exchange, sustainable investment, and the promotion of mutual heritage.
In recent years, relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United States of America in the field of tourism have reached a qualitatively new level. The foundation of this cooperation lies in the systematic efforts of the Tourism Committee to implement the provisions of the “Road Maps” aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, expanding tourism exchanges, and attracting American investment into the sector.
A New Horizon of Partnership
The partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States in tourism has matured into a dynamic and multifaceted collaboration. Rooted in the practical mechanisms of “Road Maps” and institutional dialogue, this cooperation reflects mutual cultural curiosity and shared developmental goals.
The Turning Point: 2018–2019
The years 2018–2019 marked a renaissance in bilateral tourism engagement. Uzbekistan welcomed experts from the International Association of Tourism Professionals, media representatives from PBS and ABC, and a delegation from the Congress of Bukharian Jews of the USA and Canada. The visits of American bloggers Mark Wiens and Sonny Side introduced millions of viewers to Uzbekistan’s vibrant culinary and cultural traditions.
Digital Integration and Global Accessibility
An important milestone was the integration of global booking platforms such as Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, and Tripadvisor. By late 2018, over 886 hotels were connected, vastly improving Uzbekistan’s digital visibility and accessibility for American travelers.
Media, Influence, and Cultural Imaging
Through the World Influencers Congress 2019 and cinematic projects like Devin Super Tramp’s “Aladdin”, Mystery Box’s 2021 production, and CNN’s 2023 documentary “The Spirit of Samarkand”, Uzbekistan emerged as a modern, safe, and enchanting travel destination. These initiatives reshaped the country’s image on global media platforms.
Training and Professional Exchange
Cooperation also deepened in the field of education. Edward Castley, Vice President of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, led workshops and masterclasses for Uzbek tourism educators, sharing U.S. expertise in hospitality management and service innovation.
Resilience Amid Global Challenges
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C. hosted an online conference bringing together leading U.S. travel companies — ASTA, Intrepid Travel, and G Adventures — to discuss strategies for recovery and traveler safety. The dialogue demonstrated the strength and flexibility of this bilateral partnership.
Strategic Vision and Global Recognition
In 2024, Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, met with U.S. Ambassador Jonathan Henick to explore cooperation in green tourism and workforce development. Uzbekistan’s participation in prestigious events like the Miami World Travel Expo 2024 and the New York Travel and Adventure Show 2025, where it won the “Best New Exhibitor” award, reaffirmed its rising global profile.
Growth Through Numbers: Trust and Appeal
Between 2018 and 2024, the number of American tourists visiting Uzbekistan tripled, underscoring growing trust, strong cultural appeal, and the success of sustained diplomatic engagement.
Beyond Tourism: A Human Bridge
Tourism has become more than an economic endeavor—it is now a bridge of understanding, bringing together people, ideas, and shared dreams. From the Silk Road’s ancient cities to modern American metropolises, this cooperation symbolizes a dialogue of civilizations built on respect, curiosity, and friendship.
Briefly, “From Samarkand to San Francisco, the journey is no longer measured in miles—but in mutual wonder.”
