The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), in cooperation with Google, held a virtual workshop entitled “Protecting and Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Field” with the participation of a number of representatives from both sides. The workshop aims to identify the technical methods and methods used in digital violations and mechanisms to combat digital broadcast piracy and protect intellectual property rights .
During the workshop, methods of removing infringing content from Google’s platforms were reviewed, the mechanism of blocking violating applications on the Google Play store was discussed, the procedures followed to protect intellectual property rights on the YouTube platform and how they affected, and the Commission’s efforts to raise awareness of intellectual property and enforce its rights in the Kingdom.
The Executive Director of Respect for Intellectual Property Yasser Al-Dabbasi pointed out that the importance of cooperation between the two sides will greatly contribute to strengthening the enforcement and protection of intellectual property rights through joint work. He also thanked Google for its cooperation in achieving the objectives of the workshop.
Al-Dabbasi stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors through effective partnership models to address all types of violations and reduce piracy, which in turn will contribute to improving the enforcement and protection of intellectual property rights and enhancing the economic impact of the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property seeks to enhance efforts with the private sector, which contributes to strengthening the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, as it plans to hold many coordination meetings and workshops with various relevant authorities, which will result in the signing of many memoranda of understanding and joint cooperation.
