Under auspices of Information Minister.. Launching a conference of free software in Oman

A number of important events continue in Oman including the fourth conference on software under the patronage of Dr. Abdul Moneim bin Mansour Al Hassani, Minister of Information, will take place on Monday at the Sultan Qaboos University.

Organized by the University represented by the Center for Communication and Information Research, in cooperation with the Information Technology Authority represented by the National Initiative for Free Software Support.

The conference is an important meeting place where technology leaders meet with researchers, academics and experts to present and discuss scientific progress and research results in various fields.

* Supporting the culture of technical innovation

In order to keep abreast of rapid global development, the theme of the fourth edition of the conference was chosen as “Free Software – Technology Localization and Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. It aims to encourage entrepreneurship in the field of information and communications in general and to support the community of innovators and programmers with the development of job grades in this field, in addition to supporting culture and technical innovation.

Through organizing the conference, the organizing committee seeks to support the national industry and entrepreneurship plans, and transfer and localization of modern technologies through software and exchange of experiences in the light of international experiences in this field to benefit in the Sultanate.

* Sultan Qaboos Award

 The Ministry of Information has recently won the award of the best government institution for electronic transformation. The award was received by Dr. Abdul Moneim bin Mansour Al Hassani, Minister of Information last December.
