Arab foreign ministers will hold an extraordinary virtual meeting on Thursday30/4/2020 to discuss how to face Israel’s scheme to annex the West Bank or parts of it and impose its sovereignty on the illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian lands.

The Arab League Council meeting will be held under Oman’s chairmanship at a Palestinian request and will be conducted via video conference, the AL General Secretariat announced on Monday27/4/2020.

The Arab foreign ministers will also probe ways of how to extend political, legal and financial support to the Palestinian leadership to be able to confront the aggressive Israeli plans and to face the implications of the corona virus on the economy, AL Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki said.

The Palestinian request for this extraordinary meeting was welcomed by Arab countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Algeria, Yemen and Iraq, he added.

A few days ago, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres sent a message to AL chief Ahmed Abul Gheit in which he voiced rejection to Israel’s plans to further annex occupied Palestinian territories, saying it “would shut the door for negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis and eliminate the chances for the two-state solution, Zaki said.

Guterres was responding to Abul Gheit’s message, in which he warned of Israel’s exploitation of the global preoccupation with fighting COVID-19 pandemic to carry out its annexation plots and called on UN to assume its responsibilities in this regard.
