Sultanate of Oman affirms its support to establish an independent Palestinian state, East Jerusalem as its capital

 On the authority of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, “Assaad bin Tariq Al Said,” Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and the Special Representative of Sultan Haitham participated yesterday in the work of the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development, which was held yesterday afternoon in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. For the Arab Gulf States, President Joe Biden, President of the United States of America, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, King of Jordan, and Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq.

 Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of the Sultan, stressed the position of the Sultanate of Oman in support of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967 AD, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and guaranteeing the rights of refugees, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international legitimacy resolutions. Relevancy, noting the renewed call for the international community and influential countries to exert more efforts to resume the peace process and negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides on the basis of international law.

 He said that the Sultanate of Oman renews its position in support of bringing lasting peace to Yemen and the efforts of the United Nations, its Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg, and the US Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking, to reach a political solution agreed upon by all the Yemeni people, praising His Highness for the adherence of all parties to the current truce announced by the United Nations. The United Nations, stressing the importance of the flow of humanitarian supplies to Yemen, calling for more efforts to be exercised to lift the siege on the city of Taiz and open the crossings there, as stipulated in the UN armistice.

 He added that the Sultanate of Oman stresses the importance of supporting all diplomatic efforts and political solutions to various issues through serious and constructive dialogue to achieve security and stability in the region and the world, expressing hope that the negotiations of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between Iran, the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany will lead to an agreement. Positive enhances regional and global peace, security and stability, and the importance of working to build confidence among all parties in order to ensure that the agreement is sustainable in a manner that serves the interests of the countries of the region and the international community in general.

 With regard to the Ukrainian crisis, he called for the need to respect the Charter of the United Nations, the principles of international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and to resort to dialogue and peaceful solutions to differences.

 He stressed that the Sultanate of Oman attaches great importance to environmental and climate issues, and looks forward to the contribution of the Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh (COP27) next November to accelerate efforts to address the challenges facing the world and enhance commitment towards achieving zero carbon emissions through more investment in the field of clean energy. His Highness pointed out to the need for concerted efforts by all countries of the world to reduce carbon emissions and global warming, which has become a matter of concern to human health and the environment.

The official Omani delegation includes Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harasi, Minister of Information, Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Faisal bin Turki Al Said, the accredited ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman. It has the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and “Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Badi” adviser in the office of His Highness, “Saif bin Ahmed Al-Sawafi” adviser in the office of His Highness, and a number of officials.
