On the sidelines of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, held in the State of Qatar and organized by the National Human Rights Committee in partnership with the UNDP and several international organizations, H.E. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, held an official meeting with H.E. Mr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali, Secretary-General of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions.
The meeting focused on exploring avenues of strategic cooperation between the two bodies and emphasized the importance of joint efforts to protect and promote human rights in the Arab world, especially amid the current regional challenges.
Both parties stressed the need for synergizing efforts between legislative institutions and national human rights entities, aligning actions with relevant international and regional conventions to promote a robust human rights culture across Arab societies.
H.E. Al-Yamahi commended the vital role played by the Network in empowering national institutions and reiterated the Arab Parliament’s commitment to fostering impactful partnerships that lead to legislative initiatives responding to citizens’ needs and advancing human rights awareness.
For his part, the Secretary-General praised the Arab Parliament’s contributions and affirmed the Network’s full readiness to cooperate through joint programs and initiatives that aim to institutionalize human rights values and support legislative capacities across the region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which will establish a formal framework for sustained cooperation, knowledge exchange, and alignment of regional positions on human rights issues in international forums.
