Amb. of Germany – 700,000 Sudanese refugees to Egypt by the end of 2023 as UN estimates

“Egypt is considered one of the countries most affected by the Sudanese crisis, as it is one of the neighboring countries to which large numbers of refugees also flow.”, said The German Ambassador to Cairo, Frank Hartmann  in a journalist conference.

Hartmann pointed out that the number of refugees who came to Cairo as a result of the crisis ranges between 150,000 to 200,000 refugees, and according to United Nations estimates, this number will increase to 700,000 refugees by the end of the year.

Hartmann pointed out that Germany supports Egypt in this regard, and has provided the UNHCR and the World Food Program with aid amounting to 6.7 million dollars, and thus Germany becomes the largest supporter of the World Food Program with a total of 220 million dollars, of which 100 million An introduction to help Sudan neighboring countries, including Egypt, Chad and Central Africa.

Ambassador Hartmann described the situation in Sudan as “catastrophic“, explaining that the conflict between the two parties to the conflict has escalated to a large extent, making it difficult to reach a ceasefire agreement.

The German ambassador in Cairo, Frank Hartmann, said that Egypt was severely affected by the current war in Sudan, because the number of Sudanese refugees who arrived in Egypt is estimated at between 150,000 and 250,000, which constitutes a catastrophe for Egypt.

Hartmann added that Germany provides humanitarian aid through the World Food Fund, providing about $100 million to Sudan, Chad and Central Africa.

Hartmann thanked the Egyptian government for contributing to the deportation of German citizens who were living in Sudan through 16 trips daily.
