Ambassador of Egypt in Belgium..Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty discusses a number of joint cooperation files with head of ESC of the European Union

Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Ambassador of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium accredited to the European Union, met with Mr. Oliver Robke, Chairman (ESC) of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Council of the European Union. Where he congratulated him on assuming the duties of his position recently, and looked forward to continuing cooperation with him and his work team during his tenure in order to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the European Union and to achieve common interest.

The meeting dealt with a number of important cooperation files between Egypt and the European Union within the framework of the momentum witnessed by the relations between the two sides in all aspects of cooperation of common interest, with an emphasis on the importance of building on that current development.

The boom in cooperation between the two sides in the field of clean, new and renewable energy was highlighted. On top of that are electrical interconnection projects and cooperation in the field of green hydrogen, as well as cooperation in the fields of traditional energy from natural gas in light of the pivotal role played by Egypt as a regional center for energy production and circulation.

The vital role of Egypt within the framework of its regional environment and the Egyptian successes achieved in the field of combating terrorism and illegal immigration were also emphasized.

The economic challenges facing Egypt as a result of the global economic crisis and Egypt’s reception of influxes of expatriates from Sudan due to the internal situation there were discussed. In addition to hosting millions of refugees and immigrants already on its territory who enjoy basic services away from any refugee centers.

The Chairman of the Economic and Social Committee also expressed their appreciation for the city of Alexandria hosting the Euro-Mediterranean meeting of economic and social councils and similar institutions; Which will be hosted by Egypt for the first time on July 5 and 6, 2023.

The importance of the topics to be addressed by the Euro-Mediterranean meeting on its agenda this year, which constitute a priority for the European sides in the framework of its cooperation with the countries of its southern neighbors at the Euro-Mediterranean level, and for the Egyptian side as well, was emphasized, represented in energy issues, technological transformation, and water scarcity.
