Marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt, the Korean Music Caravan is set to enchant audiences in Cairo and Alexandria with performances that transcend borders through the universal language of music.
The first concert will take place on August 26 at the historic Ewart Memorial Hall at the American University in Cairo, followed by a second performance on August 28 at the Anfushi Cultural Palace in Alexandria.
Under the theme “From Local to Global,” the concerts will showcase the rich diversity of Korean music, blending the soulful sounds of traditional instruments with the vibrancy of modern folk and dynamic dance. From solo recitals to ensemble performances, the program promises a journey through Korea’s cultural heritage in a contemporary spirit.
The tour is part of the 2025 Korean Arts Touring Project, hosted by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt and Dong-A Ilbo newspaper. This year, the project will bring about 45 programs across 34 countries, reaffirming Korea’s rising status as a global cultural hub.
In Alexandria, the concert will be accompanied by a cultural program organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, offering visitors a holistic Korean experience: an exhibition of traditional instruments, Korean film screenings, introductory language lessons, and workshops on traditional crafts.
Commenting on the occasion, Oh Seong-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, emphasized: “Over the past 30 years, Korea and Egypt have developed their bilateral relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership. Cultural exchange, and especially music, remains the cornerstone of our friendly ties. Hosting the Korean Music Caravan in two of Egypt’s major cities reflects the power of music to transcend geographical and cultural barriers.”
