ON the sidelines of a joint training course organized by the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African States in the field of cardiology for hospital directors and medical specialists from the United Republic of Tanzania, Professor Mansoura University President, Prof. Sherif Youssef Khater, received Ambassador Mohand Saleh Laajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director General of the Fund, at his office.
The Director General was accompanied by a delegation from Tanzania’s Institute of Cardiology, in the presence of the Fund’s partners, including the Egyptian African Association for Cardiology Research and Diseases, and the Egyptian “From Heart to Heart” Association.
The meeting focused on exploring avenues of joint cooperation, paving the way for Mansoura University’s participation in organizing a comprehensive medical convoy to the city of Zanzibar, in collaboration with the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African States and its partner associations. The initiative aims to deliver advanced medical services, particularly in the field of cardiology.
At the outset, Ambassador Laajouzi conveyed the greetings of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, to the President of Mansoura University. He expressed his pleasure at visiting the university for the first time, praising its advanced medical and academic capabilities, and affirming his full support for efforts to strengthen academic and medical cooperation between Mansoura University and African countries. He described the university as a distinguished model of regional academic influence.
For his part, Prof. Khater welcomed the visit and expressed his appreciation for the Fund’s activities in Africa as one of the bodies of the League of Arab States’ General Secretariat. He emphasized Mansoura University’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s strategic orientation toward deepening cooperation with African nations through practical initiatives, foremost among them international medical convoys, especially in highly specialized fields such as cardiology.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Mansoura University presented the university’s shield to Ambassador Laajouzi, in recognition of the Fund’s pivotal role in supporting African development and strengthening Arab–African cooperation.
