The Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that China and Russia have “found the right path” in their state-to-state relations as major neighboring countries, during his arrival in Moscow on Wednesday for a state visit and to attend commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In a written statement delivered upon landing at Vnukovo Airport, Xi emphasized the strength and resilience of Sino-Russian ties, calling the relationship “independent, mature, and resilient.” He said the partnership not only benefits the peoples of both countries but also contributes to “global strategic stability” and a more balanced international order.
Xi described China and Russia as “good neighbors that cannot be moved away, true friends who share weal and woe, and good partners of mutual achievement.” He noted the bilateral spirit of “strategic coordination for a new era,” which is grounded in permanent friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and mutual benefit.

The visit comes at a time of significant historical reflection, coinciding with the 80th anniversaries of both the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations. Xi underscored the importance of China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, in safeguarding the post-war international order and promoting true multilateralism in the face of hegemonism and power politics.
During his visit, Xi is expected to hold in-depth talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on bilateral ties, practical cooperation, and key international and regional issues. He said the discussions would inject “strong impetus” into the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Highlighting the symbolic weight of his visit, Xi noted that this would be his second time attending Russia’s May 9 Victory Day celebrations, exactly a decade after his previous appearance. He expressed anticipation for joining world leaders and the Russian people in honoring the sacrifices made during World War II and reaffirming commitments to international fairness and justice.
Xi’s aircraft was escorted by Russian Air Force jets upon entering Russian airspace, and he was greeted at the airport by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova and other senior officials.
