The *Egypt-Azerbaijan Friendship Association* in Cairo commemorated the 102nd birth anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan, *Heydar Aliyev* (1923–2003), who is widely regarded as the founder of modern Azerbaijan and a symbol of national unity.
The event was attended by *Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Cairo Mr. Elkhan Polukhov*, members of the Association’s board, prominent Egyptian figures, journalists, and members of the Azerbaijani community in Egypt.
The celebration began with the national anthems of both countries, followed by a welcoming speech from *Dr. Seymour Nasirov*, Chairman of the Association and head of the Azerbaijani community in Egypt. He highlighted the achievements of the late leader, describing him as the architect of modern Azerbaijan and a man who dedicated his life to serving his homeland, leaving behind a lasting political and cultural legacy.
Dr. Nasirov also emphasized the Association’s ongoing role in strengthening bilateral ties through various cultural, scientific, and social initiatives.
In his remarks, *Ambassador Elkhan Polukhov* praised the longstanding and historic relationship between Egypt and Azerbaijan, which has been further solidified through reciprocal presidential visits. He commended the Association’s efforts in fostering friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.
The event featured contributions from *Prof. Dr. Adel Darwish*, a Helwan University professor and former director of the Egyptian Cultural Center in Azerbaijan, who reflected on Heydar Aliyev’s political journey. Additionally, *Dr. Ahmed Abdo Tarabeek*, an expert in Asian and Caucasus affairs, spoke about Aliyev’s role in enhancing Azerbaijan’s ties with the Arab and Islamic worlds, and introduced his book published in honor of the leader’s centenary.
The ceremony concluded with an awards segment recognizing outstanding students of the Azerbaijani language at Cairo University, who received certificates of appreciation for their academic excellence.
