Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the ongoing development of relations between Russia and Egypt during a conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He emphasized that the bilateral ties are broad-based and anchored in the Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the two countries.
President Putin highlighted the regular and constructive nature of political dialogue, recalling their previous meeting in October 2024 in Kazan, held on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, which marked Egypt’s first participation as a full member of the organization.
He described Egypt as one of Russia’s principal partners in Africa, pointing to a significant surge in bilateral trade. According to Putin, trade between the two nations grew by more than 30% last year, reaching a record $9 billion, and in the first two months of the current year alone, it increased by more than 80%.
The Russian leader also noted the ongoing work of the Russian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission, which oversees the implementation of major joint projects. He expressed confidence in continued progress across various areas of cooperation.
Putin concluded by stressing the importance of coordination between the two nations on international and regional issues, particularly regarding the situation in the Middle East.
