TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A massive funeral procession was held in Tehran on Saturday morning to honor more than 60 Iranians martyred in the recent Israeli offensive against the Islamic Republic.
Thousands of mourners gathered in the Iranian capital to pay their respects to the fallen, who included senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, journalists, and civilians—many of them women and children.
The procession began at the University of Tehran, where the martyrs’ coffins, draped in Iranian flags, were carried through the streets to Azadi (Liberty) Square in a solemn display of national mourning.
President Masoud Pezeshkian was among the high-ranking officials who attended the funeral, underscoring the gravity of the losses suffered.
The Israeli regime launched what Iranian officials described as an unprovoked war of aggression on June 13, targeting military, nuclear, and residential sites across Iran. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 600 people, including high-ranking commanders and scientists.
In response, Iran’s military forces swiftly initiated countermeasures. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force launched 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes—dubbed Operation True Promise III—targeting sites across the occupied territories and reportedly causing significant damage and casualties.
A ceasefire agreement came into effect on June 24, bringing an end—at least temporarily—to the intense fighting.
