Cairo, Egypt – July 20, 2025 – The U.S. Embassy in Cairo hosted a luncheon in honor of the upcoming World Junior Squash Championship, celebrating the shared passion for squash between the United States and Egypt. The event underscored the strength of the bilateral relationship and the American commitment to athletic excellence ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where squash will make its historic Olympic debut.

The luncheon was hosted by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Nathaniel Turner, and attended by Sarah El Noamany, Board Member of the Egyptian Squash Federation; Embassy Spokesperson Gina Cabrera; and junior squash athletes from both the U.S. and Egyptian national teams, accompanied by their parents and coaches. The gathering highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and sports diplomacy in strengthening mutual respect and cooperation.

International sports have a remarkable ability to bring people together,” said Turner. “We may be cheering for different teams, but ultimately, we are all here to support these incredible young athletes. Sports teach essential life skills, and the friendships formed through competition help strengthen the bonds between our peoples.”

Speaking directly to the athletes, Turner continued:

You are among the elite in your sport—not only here to compete, but to learn from one another, to push each other to new heights, and to showcase the sport you love.”

As Egypt prepares to host the championship at Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo from July 21 to August 1, the luncheon served as a symbolic prelude to the eagerly awaited tournament. The U.S. Embassy takes pride in supporting these rising stars as they represent their nations on the global stage and pave the way for squash’s Olympic journey in 2028.
