STOCKHOLM, July 29 (Xinhua) — Senior Chinese trade official Li Chenggang announced that China and the United States conducted in-depth, candid, and constructive economic and trade discussions during a new round of bilateral talks held in Stockholm, Sweden.
Li, who serves as China’s International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, briefed the press following the meeting on Tuesday, highlighting a mutual commitment to strengthening economic ties and addressing key trade concerns.
During the talks, both sides expressed their intention to continue the suspension of 24 percent of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the U.S., along with China’s countermeasures, reflecting a shared interest in de-escalating trade tensions.
“The two sides are fully aware of the importance of safeguarding stable and sound China-U.S. economic relations,” Li said. He emphasized that both delegations engaged in open dialogue over each other’s primary trade and economic issues.
Over the past 36 hours, negotiators reviewed the implementation of earlier agreements reached in Geneva and London, with both parties acknowledging significant progress.
Looking ahead, Li stated that Chinese and American trade teams will maintain close communication, hold timely consultations, and work jointly to promote the stable and healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
The talks come amid ongoing global efforts to ensure economic resilience and cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
