The global economy is undergoing a quiet revolution. Traditional trade models that once sustained growth are faltering, and new centers of power are reshaping supply chains. In this turbulence, regional organizations are no longer peripheral—they are becoming essential lifelines.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a case in point. Founded as a security alliance, it is now recasting itself as an engine of economic cooperation. The adoption of the 2024 Roadmap for Multilateral Trade was more than a policy document; it was a statement that the SCO intends to define the terms of commerce in Eurasia.

No country embodies this transformation more clearly than Uzbekistan. With trade turnover surpassing USD 65 billion in 2024—a jump of over 20%—Tashkent is proving that it is more than just a transit corridor. Over 60% of its trade is now with SCO members, led by China, Russia, and Kazakhstan, but also expanding with India, Pakistan, and its Central Asian neighbors.

The direction is unmistakable: Uzbekistan is moving beyond raw materials, boosting industrial exports, and harnessing digital trade platforms like the new E-Export system. Logistics corridors, such as the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, are reinforcing its role as the beating heart of regional connectivity. And foreign investors are taking notice, with USD 11 billion in FDI in 2024 alone.

Looking ahead, projections suggest Uzbekistan’s trade could top USD 100 billion by 2030, with green energy, pharmaceuticals, and food exports joining textiles and metals as key pillars.

For Uzbekistan, this is not simply about numbers. It is about positioning itself as a bridge of commerce between East and West, orchestrating a new trade symphony in which digitalization, investment, and cooperation replace dependence and isolation.

The SCO provides the stage. Uzbekistan is ready to play the music.
