Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova attended the inaugural ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, officially opened by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The event was graced by the presence of 18 presidents, 12 kings and rulers, 8 prime ministers, and 40 ministers and parliamentary speakers — a global tribute to Egypt’s enduring cultural legacy.

Minister Lyubimova emphasized that “Russian–Egyptian relations have deep historical roots dating back to the nineteenth century, when Russian scholars actively contributed to the study of ancient Egyptian heritage. Throughout the twentieth century, joint archaeological missions, expert exchanges, and scientific projects strengthened this bilateral partnership, which continues to evolve today.”

She added that Russia’s participation in the opening ceremony reflects its respect for cooperation with Egypt and opens new horizons for joint research and cultural exchange.

According to Minister Lyubimova, the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum will significantly enhance Egypt’s position on the global tourism map as one of the world’s largest and most advanced archaeological centers.

She further noted that “Russia has extensive experience in developing cultural and educational programs, museums, and tourist routes that successfully attract millions of visitors. We are ready to share this expertise, organize joint exhibitions, scientific conferences, and educational initiatives. We are also open to collaboration in creating virtual tours with Russian experts — an initiative that will further increase visitor numbers, including Russian-speaking tourists from the CIS countries.”
