Mr. Liao Liqiang, China’s ambassador to Cairo, said that China’s shipbuilding industry has continued to hold the largest global market share across three key indicators for the 16th consecutive year in 2025, reaffirming the country’s leading role in the global maritime industry.

According to the data he cited, China’s shipbuilding output reached 53.69 million deadweight tons (DWT) in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 11.4 percent. This figure accounted for 56.1 percent of total global shipbuilding output, reflecting China’s overwhelming production capacity.

Ambassador Liao noted that new shipbuilding orders climbed to 107.82 million DWT last year, giving China a commanding 69 percent share of the global market, a clear indication of sustained international confidence in Chinese shipyards.

He added that by the end of December 2025, the volume of orders on hand in China’s shipbuilding sector reached 274.42 million DWT, up 31.5 percent compared with the previous year. This backlog represents 66.8 percent of the global market, underscoring not only current dominance but also robust prospects for the years ahead.

Together, these figures, Ambassador Liao emphasized, illustrate an industry that continues to shape global trade routes with steel, skill, and strategic vision, keeping China firmly at the helm of the world’s shipbuilding landscape.
