The Egyptian Azerbaijani Friendship Association organized an introductory seminar for students interested in studying the Azerbaijani language at its headquarters in Mokattam, Cairo.

At the beginning of the event, Dr. Seymour Nasirov, Chairman of the Association, Head of the Azerbaijani Community in Egypt, and a faculty member at the Faculty of Arts – Cairo University, welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of engaging with diverse languages and cultures.

In his remarks, Nasirov addressed the nature of Egyptian–Azerbaijani relations, as well as broader Arab–Azerbaijani ties, describing them as historically strong and distinguished.

Highlighting the importance of studying Azerbaijani, he noted that mastering the language facilitates communication with Turkic-speaking countries, particularly Turkey, and also helps learners acquire other Turkic languages such as Uzbek, Turkmen, Tatar, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz.

He further pointed out that the association has been witnessing growing interest from international students enrolled in Egyptian universities, reflecting the increasing academic and cultural relevance of the Azerbaijani language.

The seminar was attended by 45 new students, who were divided into three groups based on their proficiency levels in preparation for the start of classes. Azerbaijani language courses at the association are taught by specialists from Azerbaijan.

In conclusion, Nasirov reviewed the association’s educational and cultural activities, which have been serving students for years free of charge.

The association currently offers a range of subjects and arts, including:

  • The Ten Qira’at (minor and major) of the Holy Quran with an authenticated chain of transmission to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
  • Arabic language sciences: grammar, morphology, rhetoric, and literature
  • English language
  • Arabic calligraphy
  • Floral and geometric ornamentation
  • Vocal maqamat (melodic modes)
  • Handmade carpet weaving

The association also places special emphasis on teaching children reading, writing, Quran memorization, and artistic skills.

All courses are offered free of charge.

Currently, the association hosts more than 670 students from 61 nationalities, nearly half of whom are Egyptians. The administration affirms that serving seekers of knowledge is both an honor and a profound responsibility.
