CAIRO — Against the backdrop of a major Russian pavilion at the Africa Health ExCon, Alexey Tevanyan, the Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in Egypt, highlighted the robust expansion of bilateral trade and underscored healthcare as the next frontier for Egypt-Russia strategic cooperation.

In a series of statements detailing newly signed agreements, Tevanyan emphasized that economic ties between the two nations continue to thrive despite global headwinds:

Driving Economic Momentum Amid External Pressures

“In recent years, Russian-Egyptian trade and economic cooperation has developed highly effectively despite external pressures. A clear testament to this is our ongoing execution of mega-projects in energy, mechanical engineering, and ICT, alongside close cooperation in food security and industrial development. Notably, our bilateral trade volume has nearly doubled over the past four years.

Today, the pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare technology sectors stand out as some of the most promising, vital, and rapidly evolving areas of collaboration between our countries.”

Capitalizing on Egypt’s Strategic Position

“Our Egyptian partners have shown strong interest in Russian expertise regarding scientific research, vaccine and drug development, and cutting-edge medical equipment powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for disease diagnosis and analysis.

The exceptional competence of Egyptian scientists and doctors, coupled with Egypt’s growing industrial capabilities and prime geographical location, creates ideal conditions for comprehensive healthcare cooperation.”

Real-World Impact: The “Etme’en” Initiative

“With the active backing of the Russian Trade Representation in Egypt, Russian companies are already supplying oncology drugs, prosthetics, and surgical instruments to the Egyptian market. We are also actively exploring insulin supply chains alongside the joint manufacturing of various pharmaceuticals.

Just recently, the Russian company Prof Polimed and the Egyptian General Authority for Healthcare successfully launched a routine medical screening project for citizens in the Minya and Suez governorates. Operating under the government’s ‘Etme’en’ (Rest Assured) early detection initiative, the project utilizes Russian AI diagnostic software and medical hardware to screen patients for critical conditions, including cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

The launch ceremony was honored by the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, the Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare, and the Governors of Minya and Suez.”

Major Breakthroughs at Africa Health ExCon

“This week, Russian enterprises and state institutions are participating dynamically in Cairo’s premier medical forum, the Africa Health ExCon.

On the sidelines of the exhibition—and with the direct support of the Trade Representation—several milestone agreements have already been signed. These include contracts for supplying polio and yellow fever vaccines to Egypt with a roadmap for subsequent technology transfer, partnerships to integrate Russian AI diagnostic services into the Egyptian healthcare ecosystem, and frameworks for cooperation in nuclear medicine.”

A Vision for Shared Progress

“There is no doubt that the potential for Russia-Egypt cooperation in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors is immense. I am confident that through these joint efforts, we will significantly boost our broader bilateral trade and economic relations.

The Russian Trade Representation in Egypt remains fully committed to providing every form of support to our leading state institutions and private enterprises to turn this vision into reality.”
