In a gesture brimming with gratitude and reverence, within the historic halls of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif—where the hearts of knowledge-seekers from around the globe converge—the Indian Students’ Union honored Dr. Seymur Nasirov. As the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Egypt and the Egyptian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association, Dr. Nasirov was celebrated for a luminous 25-year journey of selfless giving, during which he sowed the seeds of wisdom and nurtured generations of students with boundless love and dedication.
A Beacon Dispelling the Shadows of Exile
With words echoing straight from the heart, the President of the Indian Students’ Union, Mr. Muhammad Kausar Jamal, expressed his deep appreciation for Dr. Nasirov. He described him as a man who has woven his life into the service of students, smoothing their academic paths and easing their burdens. Dr. Nasirov has been a spiritual father and a guide, founding numerous educational, cultural, and social initiatives—most notably through the Egyptian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association—which has become a sanctuary for intellectual and spiritual growth.
Mr. Jamal added that Dr. Nasirov stands as a living role model and a noble ambassador both for expatriate students at Al-Azhar and for his beloved homeland, Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Dr. Nasirov’s fountain of wisdom never runs dry, and that successive generations continue to draw from his well of experience without weariness or end.
Honor as a Sacred Duty
With the characteristic humility of true scholars, Dr. Seymur Nasirov accepted the accolade, offering his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Students’ Union for this beautiful, deeply human gesture. In his address, he remarked that every honor bestowed upon him is not a mere title, but a weightier crown of duty and responsibility. He noted that this celebration is not for his person alone, but for every sincere hand extended to support those who seek knowledge. He concluded beautifully:
“Serving the seekers of knowledge is an honor under whose shade I am blessed to stand, and a duty that brings ultimate joy to the soul.”
A Legacy Crowned with Distinction
This recognition is the fruit of a lifetime of dedication. Dr. Seymur Nasirov, a faculty member at Cairo University’s Faculty of Arts, began his mission of serving students in the late 1990s, long before his own graduation from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in 2002.
His enduring contributions have been recognized globally by major institutions and nations. Most notably, his grand legacy was crowned by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who awarded him the prestigious Order of Sciences and Arts of the First Class in 2025—one of the nation’s highest honors for outstanding contributions to culture and education.
The Friendship Association: A Global Oasis of Unity
Today, the Egyptian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association has blossomed into a global haven, embracing over 670 male and female students representing 61 different nationalities, with Egyptians making up nearly half of the student body. United under one roof, they drink from the purest springs of knowledge through a rich array of programs:
-
Quranic and Linguistic Sciences: The study of the Ten Qira’at (Minor and Major) with a connected chain of transmission (Sanad) reaching the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, alongside Arabic grammar, morphology, rhetoric, literature, and dictation.
-
Arts and Heritage: Reviving Islamic arts such as Arabic calligraphy, illumination, vocal maqamat (melodic modes), and the traditional craft of handmade carpet weaving.
-
Languages and Youth Development: Teaching the Azerbaijani and English languages, in addition to specialized literacy programs for young children.
Beautifully, all of these comprehensive programs are offered entirely free of charge. This stems from the Association’s profound belief that serving knowledge is not merely an activity, but a sacred humanitarian message and a societal duty aimed at shaping conscious, enlightened minds capable of building their nations and spreading peace throughout the world.
