Navigating the Future: U.S. and Egypt Join Forces to Power Suez Trade, AI, and Next-Gen Ports

CAIRO, Egypt – U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Mark Mitchell opened the U.S.–Egypt Ports Infrastructure and Maritime Innovation Forum on Sunday, August 23, in New Cairo. Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir also gave opening remarks at the forum, which featured U.S. companies showcasing cutting-edge American technology able to support Egypt’s artificial intelligence and port infrastructure sectors, creating unique opportunities for increased prosperity in both countries.
“The United States supports Egypt’s pursuit of building a world-class maritime infrastructure,” said Chargé d’Affaires Silverman. “American companies are in a distinguished position to compete for new projects and deepen the bonds of commercial cooperation between our two countries.”
“Egypt is at a globally important trade and technology crossroads,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary Mitchell. “Our collaboration builds security and strategic resilience into Egypt’s infrastructure – from modernizing maritime transport and expanding the Suez Canal corridor to deploying secure, world-class American AI tech stack and data infrastructure. By partnering with leading U.S. innovators, Egypt is positioning itself at the forefront of regional supply chain resilience and digital transformation.”
Other participants in the forum included Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Moustafa Shaikhon, Governor of North Sinai Major General Khaled Mogawer, and Deputy Minister of Maritime Transport Major General Nehad Shahin.
The forum highlighted U.S. efforts to ensure Egypt benefits from American innovation and expertise globally by connecting leading U.S. companies with opportunities in data, cloud, maritime, and logistics sectors. Through private-sector investment and technical partnerships, the United States seeks to strengthen bilateral trade, support Egypt’s economic growth, and create unique opportunities for increased prosperity in both countries.
