Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Sunday, August 23, with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, to review pressing regional developments across Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and Libya.

Sudan: Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and national institutions. He rejected any attempts to establish parallel entities and stressed the need for unhindered, sustainable humanitarian access alongside an inclusive, Sudanese-led political resolution.

Horn of Africa: The discussion underscored the importance of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity while refraining from unilateral actions that threaten regional stability or violate international law regarding maritime access. Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s participation in the late July AUSSOM troop-contributing summit in Kampala, calling for sustained funding to preserve security gains in Somalia and prevent the resurgence of terrorist threats.

Libya: Both sides exchanged views on advancing the political process. Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s backing for a Libyan-led political settlement culminating in simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to resolve the political division and safeguard state institutions.
Advisor Boulos expressed appreciation for Egypt’s constructive role in de-escalating regional tensions and stabilizing Libyan institutions. Both officials agreed to step up bilateral consultation and coordinate international diplomacy to support peaceful solutions across Africa.
