A senior British delegation has arrived in Aswan to participate in the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development in Africa.
The delegation, led by British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams, includes the UK’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, Julian Reilly, the Special Envoy for the Africa Investment Summit, Philip Parham, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the African Union, Jason Grimes, and the Special Envoy for the Sahel, Clem Naylor.
The UK is a strategic partner to Egypt on the Aswan Forum alongside the Embassies of Canada, Japan, and Sweden, as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Sir Geoffrey Adams said: “The UK and Africa are partners for prosperity. This Forum will provide an opportunity to advance the agenda of Africa’s stability and security. We look forward to participating in a constructive dialogue that results in recommendations to promote a strong, prosperous, and peaceful future for Africa.”
Philip Parham said: “I am delighted to take part in the Aswan Forum, an excellent example of the UK-Egypt partnership in Africa. The UK wants to be the investor with the biggest impact in Africa, in terms of jobs, growth and sustainability. Our next stop will be in London as we welcome African leaders and businesses to the UK-Africa Investment Summit on 20 January .”
In January 2020, the UK will host the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London, which will bring together African political and business leaders, with the UK Government, UK investors and international institutions.
The Summit will secure investment deals, create jobs through new partnerships, and showcase the UK’s unique offer to Africa. The City of London is the global financial gateway for investment and expertise. The UK will ensure that its investments are sustainable and consider climate impacts, supporting the global transition to cleaner forms of energy.
