Mr. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received today, May 3, a delegation from the US Congress headed by Mr. Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, where a closed bilateral session was held, followed by extensive discussions with the participation of the delegations of the two countries.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Mr. Sameh Shoukry referred during the talks to the strategic relationship between the two countries, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen partnership relations with the United States in all fields, especially since last year witnessed the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. the two countries.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the talks witnessed an emphasis on the special relations between the two countries, which the various political and popular circles in the two countries value and work to enhance. In this context, Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of the role of the Congress in supporting and developing the partnership between the two countries, as it is in the mutual interest of both sides and achieves their common interests, especially in light of its contribution to strengthening regional stability for many decades.
And Abu Zeid added that Minister Shoukry reviewed the efforts made by Egypt to enhance security, peace and prosperity in the region, through its involvement in supporting the peace process in the Middle East, dealing with regional crises, and supporting economic frameworks that enhance regional integration, such as the establishment of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum. . The Foreign Minister also valued military cooperation with the United States as one of the main pillars of the strategic partnership between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to expand its horizons, in light of the similar non-typical threats that the two countries face, such as the expansion of networks of terrorism and extremism, organized crime activity, and the multiplicity of hotbeds of tension and crises in the region.
For their part, the interventions of the members of the US Congress delegation came to confirm the significance of Egypt’s inclusion in the first visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives to the Middle East, and what this reflects in terms of the privacy and strategy of the relationship between the two countries. The talks touched on various aspects of the Egyptian-American bilateral relations, the tense situation in the Middle East, the Arab region and Africa, as well as the economic challenges facing Egypt as a result of the current international conditions and what the United States can offer to support Egypt economically.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman concluded his remarks by explaining that the dialogue between the Egyptian and American delegations was characterized by transparency and depth, and reflected the keenness of both sides to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, especially as it comes at a time when the challenges surrounding the two countries are increasing regionally and internationally.
