Young Innovators Gather for First-Ever Maker Faire in Egypt المبتكرون الشباب يجتمعون في أول معرض لنشر استخدام التكنولوجيا في مصر

Thousands of young people participated yesterday in the Cairo Mini Maker Faire, the first event of its kind designed to promote the use of technology and innovation.  Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in partnership with Fab Lab Egypt, the Faire was fittingly held at the Greek Campus, one of the country’s leading technology parks and a former campus of the American University of Cairo.

 شارك آلالاف من الشباب بمعرض  “نشر استخدام التكنولوجيا” Cairo Mini Maker Faire، الذي يعد أول معرض من هذا النوع يهدف إلى نشر استخدام التكنولوجيا والابتكار.  أقيم المعرض برعاية السفارة الأمريكية بالتعاون مع مؤسسة “فاب لاب” Fab Lab وذلك بمبنى “غريك كاماس” الذي أصبح أحد أهم مراكز التكنولوجيا في مصر حاليا وهو تابع لحرم الجامعة الأمريكية القديم بالقاهرة.  

Attendees praised the vast array of cutting-edge technologies that were on display at the Faire, such as 3-Dimensional printers that can quickly transform a new concept on the computer screen into an actual object that can be held and examined.  Other innovative products and services on display included environment-friendly recycled items, smartphone apps, robotics, and medical devices.

 وقد أشاد رواد المعرض بالتنوع الشديد للتكنولوجيات الحديثة المعروضة كالطابعات ثلاثية الأبعاد التي تستطيع تحويل نماذج التصميمات على شاشات الكمبيوتر إلى مجسمات ملموسة يمكن تفحصها من عدة اتجاهات.  وكذلك شملت المنتجات والخدمات الابتكارية التي ضمها المعرض منتجات صديقة للبيئة تم تصنيعها من خلال عمليات إعادة التدوير وتطبيقات للهواتف الذكية وأجهزة طبية.

Maker Faire events such as the one yesterday are part of a growing, global “Maker Movement” that aims to stimulate innovation, creativity, and technology internationally, thereby promoting economic growth and efficiency.  Last June, President Obama hosted the first Maker Faire at the White House, during which he cited the potential of the Maker Movement to create jobs and build new industries. 

 ويعد هذا المعرض  جزءا من حركة “ميكر موفمنت” Maker Movement  الآخذه في الانتشار حول العالم التي تهدف إلى تحفيز الابتكار والإبداع والتكنولوجيا على المستوى الدولي بما يدعم النمو الاقتصادي والكفاءة.  وكان الرئيس أوباما قد استضاف في يونيو الماضي أول معرض مماثل في البيت الأبيض، وأشار حينذاك إلى قدرة إمكانية مثل هذه المعارض على إيجاد المزيد من الوظائف الجيدة في المستقبل وبناء صناعات جديدة.

U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Goldberger emphasized these themes at yesterday’s event in Cairo.  Addressing young Egyptian participants, he said: “Events like this Maker Faire represent the best of the long and deep relationship between the United States and Egypt.  We have the greatest respect and admiration for the inspiration, ideas, and creativity of the young people here today. They represent the future of our relationship and of the world as a whole.” 

 وقد أكد نائب رئيس البعثة الدبلوماسية الأمريكية بالقاهرة توماس غولدبرغر على هذه المفاهيم في لقاء الأمس، حيث ألقى كلمة للمشاركين من الشباب المصري قال خلالها “إن فعاليات مثل معرض ميكر فير هي خير مثال للعلاقات الراسخه وطويل المدى بين الولايات المتحدة ومصر.  ونحن نحترم ونقدّر بشدة الروح الإبداعية والأفكار الملهمة التي عرضها الشباب هنا اليوم. هذه الروح وتلك الأفكار تمثّل مستقبل علاقاتنا المشتركة ومستقبل العالم بالكامل.”  

The U.S. Embassy’s Information Resource Center is an active participant in the Maker Movement.  Every Sunday of the week, the Center hosts a “Maker Space” workshop where talented young Egyptians come together to plan, explore, build and resolve problems using technology and innovation.

ويعد مركز موارد المعلومات التابع للسفارة مشاركاً نشطاً في  حركة ميكر موفمنت حيث يستضيف المركز كل يوم أحد ملتقى لرواد المركز لبناء الأشياء والاستكشاف وحل المشكلات عبر التكنولوجيا.
