Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (FA), Migration, and Expatriates, met with U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen—member of both the Senate Foreign Relations and Appropriations Committees—during his official visit to Washington, D.C.
The meeting focused on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. Minister Abdel Aaty presented a detailed overview of Egypt’s mediation efforts in coordination with the United States and Qatar to secure an immediate ceasefire, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and prepare for the early recovery and reconstruction phase. He firmly reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.
Minister Abdel Aaty also highlighted Egypt’s upcoming international conference—organized in cooperation with the United Nations and the Palestinian government—which will focus on early recovery and rebuilding efforts in Gaza.
The Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to the two-state solution, emphasizing the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The discussions also touched on the situation in Sudan. Minister Abdel Aaty stressed the importance of achieving a ceasefire, facilitating humanitarian access, and supporting Sudan’s national institutions. He underlined Egypt’s principled stance in favor of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
For his part, Senator Van Hollen expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s stabilizing role in the region. He praised Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of Palestinians and commended its ongoing mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
