The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, organized, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a “virtual” dialogue session on benefiting from metaverses in smart cities, on the sidelines of the Global Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (Science, Technology and InnovationForum), which is organized by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and participates in It has leaders from the various stakeholders involved.
The session opened with a speech by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, and a speech by the Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union, Seizo Onui, as the session is one of the factors of the strategic international partnership to enable modern technologies and achieve sustainable development goals.
In his opening speech, the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, reviewed the endeavors of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and its strategic directions under the leadership of His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz – may God protect him – in enabling modern technologies, most notably the Metaverse technology, indicating that the Kingdom It hosted many events stimulating the adoption of technology and its promotion of future ways of life and smart cities, stressing the strength of the Kingdom’s partnership with the International Telecommunication Union to unify visions and standards for the use of metaverse technology and accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals.
In turn, the Director of the International Negotiation Department at the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Eng. Muath bin Sulaiman Al-Rumaih, participated in the session, the state of progress witnessed by the Kingdom in the field of digital transformation and smart cities and the level of digital organizational maturity in them, referring to the efforts of the communications system in the Kingdom represented by the Commission to achieve its innovative projects and initiatives, highlighting Highlighting the effective cooperation between the authority and international organizations, which has made the Kingdom a role model at the regional and global levels in digital transformation and enabling modern technologies.
The session witnessed the participation of a group of decision makers and representatives from international and regional organizations, as well as experts from the private sector and the research field. Access to public and private services, promote global cooperation, build communities, enhance citizen participation, and enable new participatory and collaborative models.
