Cairo – Egypt, 4 December 2022: The leading local tech platform, talabat, joins forces with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to raise awareness on climate crisis, nutrition and ways to achieve a world with Zero Hunger.

The one-year awareness campaign is set to encompass several thematic areas, curated by both organizations to be published on the talabat platform. The themes are of high relevance and importance, especially in light of the recent conclusion of the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Commenting on the partnership, Managing Director of talabat Egypt Hadeer Shalaby says: “Using our tech for good is at the core of our operations and we work to leverage our platform as a vessel for informed change. I am proud to see our global strategic partnership with WFP, the world’s largest humanitarian organization, helping us leverage this even further and achieve a long-term sustainable change in our communities.”

On his part, Praveen Agrawal, WFP Representative and Country Director in Egypt, praised responsible companies that place the health, stability and safety of their communities at the heart of their operations. “WFP works to reinforce the government’s efforts to achieve sustainable development on numerous fronts, strengthening food security systems and mitigating climate change are top priorities, hence we aim through this partnership to achieve increased awareness amongst talabat’s wide customer base,” he added.

Building on their Tech4Good efforts, talabat is utilizing its digital communication channels to place WFP’s narrative and action at the forefront. This not only compliments the company’s work in corporate responsibility and sustainability, but also brings millions of its customers closer to the impactful work of WFP. The thematic campaign will address topics such as child and youth nutrition, fostering healthy eating habits, and reducing carbon footprint.

In addition to the recent local cooperation, both parties have joined forces to help with the fight to end hunger across the region. This has led to the launch of the WFP’s Share The Meal, crowdfunding application, in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, where talabat customers can safely and conveniently donate to feed a child in need.
