Governor of Cairo – Starting 2nd round of NISGP under the auspices of President El-Sisi

The Major General Khaled Abdel Aal, Governor of Cairo, announced that the capital has started the work of the second round of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP), which was launched by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and in implementation of the Prime Minister’s Decree No. 2738 of 2022 regarding the launch of the initiative, which comes within the framework of Egypt’s pioneering role in the field of sustainable development, and the importance the state attaches to the localization of sustainable development goals at the level of the Republic.
The Cairo governor added that the application for the second stage starts from the first of April and continues until the end of May 2023, through the initiative’s website http://www.sgg.eg.

Noting that the unprecedented initiative at the global level focuses on implementation and application on the ground, and confirms the interest of the Egyptian state in the issue of climate change and dealing with the environmental dimension within the framework of achieving the goals of sustainable development and digital transformation, as well as the national strategy for climate change 2050 by presenting projects that achieve these goals.

The Governor of Cairo emphasized that the aim of the initiative is mainly to create a state of social and motivational movement within all neighborhoods of the capital within the framework of the orientation to empower the private sector, youth and women, to emphasize the importance of green and smart projects in various aspects of life.

The initiative targets many areas, on top of which are projects that take into account environmental sustainability standards, which lead to a reduction in carbon emissions and pollution, and preserve natural resources, in addition to projects that enhance energy and resource efficiency, and projects that address solutions to issues of food security, water security, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. Which help adapt to climate changes.

The initiative includes various types of projects, including large-scale projects, medium-sized projects, and small local projects (especially related to the Decent Life Initiative), in addition to projects submitted by startups, development projects related to women, climate change, and sustainability, and non-profit community initiatives and partnerships.

The National Committee for the Initiative includes a number of ministries and concerned authorities represented in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Environment, International Cooperation, Communications, Local Development, and the National Council for Women, headed by the Ministry of Planning, in order to ensure concerted efforts and achieve integration between all sectors of the state in dealing with the issue of climate change.
