SCM authorizes the Minister of Transport to discuss with Egypt a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of maritime connectivity for passenger transport in the Gulf of Aqaba

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God protect him – chaired the session held by the Council of Ministers (SCM), today, in Jeddah.

At the beginning of the session, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques briefed the Council of Ministers on all contacts and talks that took place during the past days between the Kingdom and a number of brotherly and friendly countries, regarding joint relations, regional issues, and global developments.

In this context, the Council affirmed the Kingdom’s firm positions towards establishing security and stability in the region and the world, and its permanent call on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards stopping Israeli attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip, and supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and establishing their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Excellency the Minister of Information, Mr. Salman bin Youssef Al-Dosari, explained, in his statement after the session, that the Council of Ministers reviewed the topics on its agenda, and the Council concluded a package of decisions, including the authorization of His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Transport Authority – or his representative. – By discussing with the Egyptian side a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of maritime connectivity for passenger transportation in the Gulf of Aqaba between the General Authority for Transport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Transport in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and signing it.

The Council also praised the outcomes of the second ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the countries of Central Asia, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness to continue strengthening bridges of communication with various countries of the world, and to support aspects of joint coordination, including multilateral work.

  The Council welcomed the participants in the special meeting of the World Economic Forum, which will be held next Sunday and Monday in Riyadh, within the framework of the Kingdom’s interest in enhancing international cooperation and shaping the future path to confront global challenges.

  The Council of Ministers also noted that five Saudi cities achieved advanced positions in the Smart Cities Index for the year 2024 issued by the International Institute for Administrative Development.
