His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, stressed that the Russian Federation is an important friend of the Arab countries, noting that Russian-Arab relations at the official level are strategic relations and include important vital areas, whether at the economic, developmental or political levels, noting the Arab-Russian Forum that was established between the League of Arab States and the Russian Federation since 2009, which represents an important mechanism for strengthening relations between the two sides.
“Al-Yamahi” stressed the Arab Parliament’s keenness to launch Arab-Russian relations in the parliamentary field that keep pace with the great progress witnessed by strategic relations between the two sides at the governmental level.
This came during the reception of the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, today, His Excellency Ambassador Georgy Borisenko, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab Parliament in Cairo.
During the meeting, Al-Yamahi praised the Russian Federation’s supportive stances for the Palestinian cause in the UN Security Council and its understanding of the legitimate rights of the State of Palestine, most notably the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, appreciating the Russian Parliament’s positions that always support the Palestinian cause in all meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
For his part, the Russian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt stressed that the Russian Federation is a key ally of the Arab countries and will continue its ongoing support for the Palestinian cause since 1988.
He stressed that strengthening relations between the Arab Parliament and the Parliament of the Russian Federation in both chambers will represent a qualitative added value to the strong relations between the Russian Federation and the Arab countries, stressing the Russian Parliament’s welcome to strengthening relations with the Arab Parliament at all levels.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Counselor Kamel Shaarawy, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament, and Dr. Ashraf Abdel Aziz, Political Advisor to the Speaker of the Arab Parliament and Director of the Foreign Relations Department.
