Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ bombing of the village of Koya in the western countryside of Daraa in southern Syria, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of innocent civilians. He reiterated his categorical rejection of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and a blatant attempt to exploit the delicate phase Syria is going through to encroach on its lands and incite strife and conflict.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, explained that Aboul Gheit stressed that the Security Council is required to fulfill its role in halting the brutal and unjustified Israeli aggression against Syria and obliging Israel to respect international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. He called on the international community to take strong and clear positions to deter Israel’s settlement and aggressive behavior against the countries and peoples of the region.

The official spokesman reiterated the Arab League’s solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic in confronting these repeated Israeli violations, and its full support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.
