Regarding the US Announcement of “Title-to-Tariff” Tariffs, in recent days the US has imposed additional tariffs on products imported from China and other countries into the United States, under the guise of “title-to-tariff” tariffs. This constitutes a gross violation of WTO rules and seriously damages the rules-based multilateral trading system. China firmly opposes this and will resolutely defend its legitimate interests.

The US claims to have suffered a loss in international trade and has arrived at what it calls “title-to-tariff” tariffs based on a self-serving and unilateral assessment. This ignores the balance of interests achieved by multilateral trade over the years, overlooks the fundamental fact that the United States has benefited greatly from international trade in the long run, and constitutes a purely unilateral act of bullying. Over the past five years, additional tariffs imposed by the United States have forced American companies to raise product prices and accept lower profits, leading to wage cuts and layoffs, with most of the costs being borne by American consumers. This clearly demonstrates that waving the stick of tariffs does not solve problems in the United States; rather, it is like raising a stone only to have it fall on its own feet. There are no winners in trade and tariff wars, and protectionism has only served as a dead end. China urges the US to correct its erroneous practices and resolve trade disputes with China and other countries through consultations based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
