On Wednesday, June 18, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss bilateral cooperation and the evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the alarming escalation between Israel and Iran.
The two ministers expressed their mutual appreciation for the steady development of Egyptian–Chinese relations across various fields in recent years. They affirmed the importance of continuing joint efforts to elevate bilateral cooperation in ways that serve the shared interests of both nations and their peoples.
Regionally, Minister Abdel Aaty outlined Egypt’s position on the military escalation between Israel and Iran, warning of its grave consequences for regional stability and security. He stressed that there is no viable alternative to diplomatic solutions and called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations as the sole path toward a sustainable resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
He also highlighted Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to contain the crisis and prevent the region from descending into chaos.
For his part, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s full support for Egypt’s stance, emphasizing the alignment between the two countries in advocating de-escalation and political dialogue. He praised the joint statement issued on June 16 by 24 Arab and Islamic nations—an initiative led by Egypt—which called for an immediate ceasefire and a swift return to negotiations to revive the Iranian nuclear agreement.
