A telephone conversation took place on Wednesday, June 25, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, and Mr. Georgios Gerapetritis, the Foreign Minister of Greece. The discussion focused on ways to enhance the longstanding bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and included an exchange of views on the evolving developments in the region.
Minister Abdelatty praised the historic ties between Egypt and Greece and the momentum gained in bilateral cooperation across various sectors. He highlighted the elevation of relations to a Strategic Partnership, which was formalized during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Greece in May, as a milestone in mutual cooperation. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to deepening collaboration in all areas, driven by the close ties between the leaderships and peoples of both countries.
The two ministers also addressed key regional issues of mutual concern. They welcomed the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement announced the day before between Iran and Israel, and emphasized the importance of both parties honoring the terms of the agreement to curb further escalation and create space for political and diplomatic dialogue.
The call also covered the situation in Libya, where Minister Abdelatty underscored the need to:
- Preserve security and stability throughout Libyan territory,
- Safeguard national institutions, and
- Respect Libya’s unity and territorial integrity.
He further stressed the necessity of holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, and the dismantling of armed militias, as essential steps toward restoring peace and stability in the country.
