Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, on Saturday, 22 November, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
The conversation centred on the latest developments in the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdelatty underscored the urgent necessity of fully implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, initiating early-recovery measures, and launching the reconstruction process. He stressed the imperative of ensuring unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip and called for a unified international effort to enforce the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza. The Minister highlighted the importance of swiftly establishing an international stabilization force in Gaza to assume its responsibilities.
He also outlined Egypt’s preparations to host the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, expressing Cairo’s hope that the United Kingdom would take part as a committed partner in efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The meeting also touched on Sudan. The Foreign Minister briefed Powell on Egypt’s ongoing efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism to support de-escalation and achieve a comprehensive ceasefire. He reiterated the importance of coordinated regional and international action to create the right conditions for launching an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability. Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in supporting the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
