On Friday, February 13, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, the Foreign Minister of the Central African Republic (CAR), on the sidelines of the African Union Summit.

Minister Abdel Aaty extended congratulations to his counterpart on the re-election of President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, praising CAR’s successful electoral process and the President’s efforts to restore security and stability. He highlighted Egypt’s active participation in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), noting the pivotal role of Egyptian forces in maintaining peace and security.

The discussion emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation in priority sectors, including energy, transportation, construction, and pharmaceuticals, aimed at boosting economic development in both nations. Minister Abdel Aaty also underscored Egypt’s commitment to capacity-building across Africa, citing the Egyptian Partnership for Development’s programs for African professionals, which prioritize training for Central African personnel.

Turning to Sudan, Minister Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for Sudanese unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions. He condemned any attempts to divide the country or undermine its sovereignty, emphasizing the necessity of a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive political process under full Sudanese ownership, as reflected in the statement issued during the Egyptian-chaired AU Peace and Security Council meeting.

The meeting also addressed institutional reforms within the African Union. Egypt reaffirmed its support for AU efforts to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, provided reforms remain inclusive. Both ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultations in regional and international forums to advance shared interests and reinforce stability across Africa.

In essence, the meeting reflects Egypt’s strategic approach: combining diplomatic support, security collaboration, economic partnership, and capacity-building initiatives to foster sustainable peace and development in Central Africa.
