An evening of culinary artistry and cultural heritage unfolded at the residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Cairo, offering a refined introduction to the richness of Anatolian traditions. Hosted by Mrs. Ayşen Balcı Şen, spouse of Ambassador Mr. Salih Mutlu Şen, the event brought together culture, history, and gastronomy in an elegant and immersive setting.

Organized with the support of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the gathering celebrated Türkiye’s deep-rooted culinary legacy while welcoming an international audience. Among the distinguished attendees were members of the Cleopatra Group, alongside a select circle of spouses of former ministers and Egyptian ambassadors.

The evening highlighted three historic Anatolian cities—Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Mardin—renowned as crossroads of civilizations. Beyond their celebrated cuisines, these cities embody the spirit of Anatolia through their layered histories, human narratives, and cultural depth. Guests were invited to experience a heritage spanning thousands of years, brought together on a single table.

A specially curated menu by award-winning chef Doğa Çitçi, Culinary Coordinator of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and Head of the Culinary Arts Center, received widespread acclaim. The selection featured iconic dishes such as olive oil dolma, raw meat kibbeh, yuvarlama, stuffed kibbeh, Ali Nazik, Urfa kebab, and the world-famous baklava—crafted using premium ingredients sourced directly from Gaziantep.

The program also included a visual presentation showcasing the unique cultural identity of each featured city. Highlights included the ancient city of Zeugma, pistachios, baklava, and kutnu fabric from Gaziantep; the archaeological sites of Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe, along with sıra night traditions and isot pepper from Şanlıurfa; and the stone houses of Mardin, alongside the delicate art of telkari (silver filigree) and traditional copper craftsmanship.

More than a tasting experience, the evening offered guests an intimate glimpse into Anatolia’s enduring cultural heritage—its hospitality, its traditions, and the vital role of women in preserving and transmitting this legacy.

The event, designed to showcase the global strength and richness of Turkish culinary culture, was met with great admiration and appreciation from all in attendance.
