As the 2023 flashes.. Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations congratulates and warns the world saying:
The world welcomes the year 2022 in circumstances in which our hopes for the future are subject to various tests due to the exacerbation of poverty and the exacerbation of inequality, and because of the inequitable distribution of Covid vaccines and because of the inadequacy of climate commitments at the required level and because of conflicts and divisions and the spread of misinformation. realistic. These are tests that humanity can pass, but on the condition that we commit to making 2022 a year whose motto is achieving a comprehensive recovery for all.
Recover from the effects of the pandemic by developing a bold plan to vaccinate everyone, everywhere, and restore our economies so that the richest countries support the developing world with financing, investment, and debt relief. And recovery from suspicion and division by focusing on scientific data, facts, and reasoning. And recovery from the impact of conflicts by renewing the spirit of dialogue, compromise and reconciliation. And achieve recovery for our planet by making climate commitments commensurate with the scale and urgency of the crisis.
Guterres added: The circumstances that involve the greatest adversity are also the conditions that provide the greatest opportunities to join hands in a spirit of solidarity, to rally around solutions that can benefit all people, and to move forward – together – armed with hope in what our human family can achieve. Let us all make sure that recovery is our desired goal in 2022, in the interest of people and the planet and achieving prosperity.
I wish you all a happy and peaceful New Year.
