Egypt has been elected to preside over the Global Gusi Peace Organization in the Philippines, marking a historic moment as the first African and the second Arab nation ever to hold this distinguished leadership role.

The Gusi Peace Prize stands among the world’s most esteemed honors, awarded to individuals whose lives reflect compassion, innovation, and service. Candidates are selected for their humanitarian initiatives, social contributions, intellectual and scientific discoveries, and their impact on protecting communities, the environment, human rights, and the dignity of life.
The prize embraces every domain that enriches the human journey—medicine, science, tourism, culture, literature, music, sports, arts, and technology—honoring those who strive to build a world of security, harmony, and peace.

Over four decades, the prize has celebrated presidents, global thinkers, scientists, and humanitarians whose work has elevated the quality of life and advanced human rights. Among its most iconic laureates is the late President Nelson Mandela, whose moral legacy continues to illuminate the ideals of the prize.

The award is named after Captain Gusi, a Filipino freedom fighter who led resistance efforts against Japanese occupation. After the war, he and his family dedicated their lives to supporting victims, widows, and orphans—transforming personal sacrifice into a global vision of peace. Since its founding, hundreds of international figures have been honored in his name.

This year marks a turning point: Egypt has been chosen to preside over the Gusi Peace Prize for the first time in history. It is a moment of continental pride—Africa’s first representation at the helm—and a reaffirmation of Egypt’s long-standing role as a beacon of stability and dialogue.

Mr. Ezzat Hassan has been nominated to assume the presidency of the organization and oversee this year’s ceremonies in Manila, Philippines.

Among the distinguished laureates of 2025 are:

  • Mohamed Waheed Hassan, former President of the Maldives
  • Dr. Edna Adan of Somaliland
  • Kurt Weldon, Member of the U.S. Congress
  • Alongside several other notable international personalities

Together, they form a global chorus of voices working toward a world where peace is not merely envisioned, but lived.
