Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi affirmed that the current phase — marked by intertwined political, economic, and security challenges — demands stronger Arab solidarity and deeper parliamentary coordination. He called for collective responsibility, the consolidation of Arab unity, and the activation of parliamentary diplomacy as a powerful tool for positive influence on regional and international issues.
Al-Yamahi made these remarks during his address at the second general session of the Arab Parliament’s second ordinary sitting of the fourth legislative term, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States.
Palestine at the Heart of Arab Priorities
He stressed that the Palestinian cause will always remain at the forefront of the Arab Parliament’s agenda, welcoming the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee to administer the Gaza Strip. He described it as an important step toward easing the humanitarian crisis and restoring administrative and service structures in the enclave.
Al-Yamahi emphasized that any political track that does not lead to a complete and permanent ceasefire and full withdrawal from Gaza cannot be considered serious or acceptable. He renewed the Parliament’s condemnation of the systematic and illegal settlement expansion carried out by the occupying power in the West Bank.
Yemen: Toward a Comprehensive Political Solution
On Yemen, Al-Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s firm support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and final political settlement, based on the three internationally and locally recognized references that uphold Yemen’s unity and the end of the Houthi coup.
He welcomed the convening of an inclusive conference to address the southern issue, praising Saudi Arabia for hosting it, and urged all southern factions to participate responsibly, placing Yemen’s national interest above all other considerations.
Sudan: A Threat Beyond Its Borders
Addressing the Sudanese crisis, Al-Yamahi warned that the ongoing dangerous escalation not only threatens Sudan’s unity and security but also poses a direct risk to Arab national security, as well as to the Red Sea and Horn of Africa regions.
He called for launching an inclusive political process in line with the commitments of the Jeddah Declaration issued in May 2023, one that preserves Sudan’s state institutions and territorial integrity.
Syria and Lebanon: Sovereignty Above All
Regarding developments in Syria, the Arab Parliament Speaker reiterated his unwavering support for prioritizing Syria’s national interest, stressing that a sustainable solution can only be achieved through an inclusive political process based on dialogue among all Syrian components within the framework of the state and its national institutions.
He strongly condemned the repeated aggressive attacks and systematic escalation by the occupying power against Syrian and Lebanese territories, describing them as flagrant violations of sovereignty and clear breaches of the UN Charter and international law.
Libya: Toward a Libyan-Led Settlement
On Libya, Al-Yamahi reaffirmed support for a comprehensive political settlement driven by Libyan will, leading to the swift holding of presidential and parliamentary elections.
Somalia: Unity and International Legitimacy
Concluding with Somalia, he emphasized the Arab Parliament’s full support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, once again condemning the occupying power’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” considering it a blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy.
