SIX year Efforts of Japanese Research Project To Tackle Future Water Shortage in Egypt – The Embassy of Japan cordially introduces you the Final Symposium of the technical cooperation project for Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) on Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd of March 2015, which is held by JICA. This project has been implemented in partner with the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, National Water Research Center (NWRC) and Agricultural Research Center (ARC) since 2009.
To overcome the future shortage of irrigation water in Egypt, the project has conducted interdisciplinary research such as evapo-transpiration measurement to know actual water consumption in the farm, water level and quality monitoring in the irrigation and drainage canals, social survey with 400 farmers in the Delta, and water saving trials with different crops on the farm. In the symposium, the project will propose the possible measure to save irrigation water from those on-the-ground research activities.
Through the SATREPS program, the Government of Japan funds research projects to challenge global issues. This program was launched in 2008, and 87 projects in 41eligible countries are currently implemented.
