The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Minister Shukri discussed with the UN envoy the latest decision on the developments in the situation in Syria issued by the last meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in its extraordinary session held on the 7th of this month, and what the decision dealt with regarding the resumption of participation of Syrian government delegations in the conference. The call also dealt with the formation of a ministerial committee with the membership of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States to follow up on the implementation of the Amman Declaration and to communicate directly with the Syrian government to achieve that end.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the role that the Arab countries are currently playing towards working to end this protracted crisis, which requires working closely with the United Nations represented by the Special Envoy to Syria and international partners to join efforts to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people. .
For his part, the UN envoy stressed his aspiration to work closely with the Arab Ministerial Committee to push for a gradual solution to the Syrian crisis, and reaffirmed his full appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role in achieving that goal and for the continuous coordination with the United Nations. It was also agreed to continue joint work and coordination during the coming period.
