Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Mr. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call on Thursday, the first of February, from Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the two ministers discussed in detail the developments of the Gaza Strip crisis in light of the continuing Israeli attacks and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions to which the Palestinian people are exposed in the Strip, which requires working on parallel axes aimed at reaching a complete ceasefire and mobilizing international efforts. To ensure the access of humanitarian aid, in addition to addressing the roots of the crisis, which is the continuation of the Palestinian issue without a solution and without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state over many decades.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that Mr. Sameh Shoukry was keen to inform his Iranian counterpart of the efforts made by Egypt to try to reach a truce that would spare the blood of the Palestinian brothers and allow the introduction of aid in a sustainable manner that meets the needs of the sector. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the necessity of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2720, which includes establishing a mechanism under the auspices of the United Nations to accelerate and monitor the process of implementing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the Foreign Minister expressed during the call Egypt’s deep concern about the expansion of the conflict in the region, which has cast a negative and dangerous shadow on the sovereignty and stability of a number of sisterly Arab countries, which portends serious consequences for the region and international peace and security, stressing. However, the expansion of the scope and scope of the conflict is not in the interest of any party, and negatively affects the efforts made to resolve the crisis.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed Egypt’s concern and denunciation of the expanding military tensions in the southern Red Sea region, which negatively affects the interests of many countries, including Egypt, as a result of the threat it poses to international shipping traffic in this important and strategic international shipping corridor.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the foreign ministers of Egypt and Iran affirmed their complete rejection of any plans or measures aimed at displacing Palestinians outside their lands, and agreed to intensify efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire that allows the provision of protection for the Palestinian people, the entry of aid, and ensuring a safe and stable life for them on their land.
