On the evening of May 6, 2026, the gardens of Cairo witnessed a profound moment of human connection as the Embassy of Mexico transformed into a bridge spanning continents, hosting a literary dialogue between the heart of Mexico and the spirit of the Arab world.

In collaboration with Logha Tangent for Publishing and Distribution, the embassy celebrated the release of the Arabic translation of the acclaimed novel The Only Daughter (La hija única) by renowned Mexican author Guadalupe Nettel. This gathering was more than a mere book launch; it was a celebration of the universal language of storytelling that defies borders.

Voices of the Dialogue

The event featured a rich panel of intellectual voices who explored the nuances of cross-cultural literature:

  • Isis Ashour (Publisher)

  • Abdel Halim Gamal (Translator)

  • Sayed Abdel Hamid (Author)

  • Wafaa Salah (Author)

The discussion centered on the vital role of translation as a vital artery between cultures, allowing contemporary Mexican masterpieces to find a home among Arabic-speaking readers. This specific translation was made possible through the support of the PROTRAD program, a Mexican government initiative dedicated to promoting Mexican literature globally.

A Shared Language Under One Sky

The evening’s program offered attendees a deep dive into the creative process, including an explanation of the translation journey and a literary analysis of the work. In a moving display of cultural harmony, excerpts of the novel were read in both Arabic and Spanish, creating a rhythmic fusion of sounds that underscored our shared human experience.

Through these initiatives, Mexico reaffirms its commitment to cultural diplomacy as a primary tool for strengthening bilateral ties with Egypt. By fostering dialogue and mutual understanding through the arts, both nations continue to build a future rooted in intellectual exchange and friendship.
